With St Valentine’s Day in the calendar, there isn’t probably anywhere more romantic to be than in the italian city of Verona, where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet took place. Only an hour train ride away from Venice, Verona is a favorite destination for lovers. You can even take a picture of the famous balcony where the lovers professed their love and the bronze statue of Juliet at the Casa di Giuletta.
Take your time to explore Verona. Its I century Roman amphitheater, enjoy a cocktail or a glass of prosecco at any of the various cafés and admire the beautifully preserved baroque buildings surrounding the Piazza delle Erbe or the Torre del Gardello. For the best panoramic views of the city, hike to the hilltop Piazzale Castel San Pietro or ride the funicular.
The frozen continent can be visited only during a few months every year and February is the best way to do so. You may be lucky enough to catch a sunny day and be able to admire the deep blue waters and the blinding white ice.
